Golf best bets: Picks for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship

The PGA Tour fall swing rolls on this week with the Butterfield Bermuda Championship from Port Royal Golf Course, but don't expect to see any of the big names on island time. Adam Scott is a +1600 betting favorite in the light field, followed by Brendon Todd (+1800), Thomas Detry (+2200) and Taylor Pendrith (+2200).

Only the golf sickos will be watching the Butterfield Bermuda Championship all weekend, but you don't have to be one of them to cash some tickets. Let's gun for some plus-money winners with three best bets for this week's tournament.

Brian Gay top-20 finish (+600 FanDuel)

Brian Gay is 51 years old. He's missed six straight cuts on the PGA Tour and hasn't finished better than T52 since last October. This isn't a player who can compete with the best in the world anymore.

Well, except if he's playing Port Royal Golf Course.

Gay has played in the Bermuda Championship four years in a row. He finished T3 in 2019, won the tournament in 2020, then finished T12 in 2021 and T11 in 2022. Gay hasn't come close to contending on the PGA Tour anywhere else in the world for years, but he dominates this golf course every time he shows up in Bermuda.

Akshay Bhatia top-10 finish (+240 DraftKings)

Akshay Bhatia is a perfect player to back on this type of golf course. The talented lefty plays his best golf on windy, coastal courses with plenty of birdie opportunities, and that's exactly what we have this week at Port Royal.

It's been an up-and-down season for Bhatia, but some of his best finishes have come in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Punta Cana. He also finished T17 in his Bermuda Championship debut last year, and he should be able to improve upon that finish in a weak field this time around.

Luke List > Lucas Herbert (+100 DK)

It's tough to bet against Lucas Herbert at this golf course considering he won the Bermuda Championship in his lone start here two years ago, but that's exactly what we're going to do.

Herbert isn't returning to Bermuda in good form. The Australian has just one top-25 finish in his last 11 starts, and he's missed the cut five times over that span. As for Luke List, he's on fire with a win and three top-25 finishes in his last four starts. He's also gained strokes putting in three of his last four, and the putter is normally the club that holds him back.

If he can stay hot on the greens, List should have a better week than an out-of-form Herbert.
