Conflicting reports of course damage cast shadow over LIV Golf event

Following a weekend highlighted by Chase Koepka's beer-soaked hole-in-one, it appeared like LIV Golf Adelaide was nothing short of a huge success. But now there are some interesting -- and varying -- reports coming out of Grange Golf Club this week regarding the state the course was left in after the event last month.

And those reports are casting a bit of a shadow over the breakaway golf circuit's most successful event to date.

The focus for LIV Golf should be its event in Oklahoma later this week, but that has shifted as reports surfaced on Monday that members of Grange Golf Club in Australia were "infuriated" by LIV Golf fans ultimately trashing the course. According to Australian outlet The Advertiser, members were unhappy with the amount of time it was going to take to clean the course up afterward, particularly when it came to the beer shower at the Watering Hole.

"A profit-making circus has come to town and the people paying the price are the members," club member Trevor Craig told The Advertiser. "We’re not a charity, we’re a private club, and I don’t think we’ve been compensated adequately. We’re going to have a mess for six months and then it’s going to be back again."

It didn't take long for Grange Golf Club to refute the report. Club general manager Barry Linke told Golf Digest the majority of members are actually quite happy with the spotlight the event put on the club -- a note LIV Golf fans were quick to point out. Linke did mention that there was some damage to the course, but said it was minimal.

"We will work with the LIV team to remedy the minimal damage to the course caused by the infrastructure, which has not affected playing areas, and look forward to planning the next event," Linke told Australian Golf Digest.

It isn't readily apparent if this is a case of Grange Golf Club covering its backside and downplaying the damage or just a select few members getting their slacks in a twist after such a big event. Regardless, it appears LIV Golf will be returning to Adelaide.

Whether the big beer showers return, however, is something to look out for.
