The Wisconsin football coaching staff is making some moves on the recruiting trail. 2025 four-star running back Byron Louis announced on Sunday that he’s locked in an official visit with the Badgers.

Louis, who hails from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has been on the Badgers’ radar for a while now. When he dropped the list back in December, Louis had Wisconsin football among his top 10 options, alongside programs like Miami, Penn State, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Tennessee, USC, Florida State, and Oklahoma.

Louis’s visit is crucial for position coach Devon Spalding and the Badgers as they face stiff competition for the blue-chip running back. According to the composite rankings, Louis is ranked as the No. 203 player in the class of 2025 and the No. 15 running back nationally.

“My relationship with coach Spalding has grown over time to a good point,” Louis said. “He is very passionate and knowledgeable about the game, and he is ready for me to get to work.”

Wisconsin football is also bringing in Georgia running back Javin Gordon for an official visit in early June, indicating the Badgers’ growing desire to solidify the running back spot in this recruiting cycle. A few other names to watch are Jace Clarizio and John Forster.

Despite their efforts, the Badgers have yet to secure a commitment from a running back for the class of 2025. Because Wisconsin football took three scholarship tailbacks during the last recruiting cycle, it would be surprising to see them take more than one this time around.

Louis is coming off a standout junior season at American Heritage High School, where 2024 signee Xavier Lucas attended. In his third varsity season, Louis totaled 1,224 yards and 18 touchdowns on 160 carries, good for an average of 7.7 yards per carry and 102 yards per game.

His visit with the Wisconsin football program will give both parties a chance to assess their fit and, if everything goes well, potentially lay the groundwork for an upset in his recruitment.
