Raiders Draft Prospect: CB Jarrian Jones, FSU

The Las Vegas Raiders are evaluating young talent in the 2024 NFL Draft, something they will do for the next few months.

The Raiders will undergo a rigorous process as they evaluate countless prospects, trying to find players who best fit the culture and foundation of their future.

New General Manager Tom Telesco and Coach Antonio Pierce usher in a new era of Raiders football, one they hope will be built on competitiveness and success. Pierce and the Raiders turned their season around in 2023 and hope to continue that success in 2024.

One player who could add to that success is Florida State cornerback Jarrian Jones. After spending one season at Mississippi State, Jones played four seasons with the Seminoles.

Jones finished his collegiate career with 96 total tackles, five and a half tackles for loss, a forced fumble, 12 passes defended, and five interceptions. He has lots of experience, playing in 52 career games.

Jones stands 6 feet tall and weighs 191 pounds. He looks like a slot cornerback on tape, and according to Pro Football Focus, he played a majority of snaps in the slot with 394. He has the physical profile to play on the outside, too.

Jones is at his best in coverage. He thrives as both a man and zone corner, using good instincts and quick feet to make plays on the ball and receivers. Jones may get drafted higher than expected because he is multi-faceted in defending the pass.

According to PFF, Jones was targeted 32 times and allowed just 16 receptions for 158 yards and did not allow a touchdown. He is a disciplined corner, as he did not commit a penalty in 2023.

While Jones is a good cover corner, he is not as good in the run game. He does not have great footwork, either, relying on his instincts to make plays. He will have to clean up his footwork and be more agile at the next level.

Jones is projected to be a fourth-round selection but may go higher if teams covet his coverage skills.

If the Raiders are looking for a sticky cover corner whose ball skills have room to grow, Jones could be a good fit.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
