Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

One of the biggest and most shocking moments in recent WWE history was the return of CM Punk at Survivor Series: WarGames. WWE has often promoted the moment as “the night that Hell froze over.’ In a recent interview, Cody Rhodes shared his thoughts on Punk’s return.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour , Cody Rhodes revealed that Triple H and Nick Khan asked for his opinion, and he said that he was truly happy to see Punk back in WWE.

“Nick and Hunter both told me, got my opinion,” Cody Rhodes said. “I was going into The WarGames in Chicago there in Allstate [Arena], which was amazing. For him to come out and return in the fashion… I was really happy for him.”

“The American Nightmare” also mentioned that he was not at all surprised by the fact that Punk returned to WWE.

“No, not at all,” Cody Rhodes said. “I feel like both Nick and Hunter really have their finger on the pulse. So, even if there was some bad business in the past. I mentioned the things that I had said. Nick, for me, he looked at me and explained to WWE and management, ‘Here is what Cody is and what he can do for us.’ I think he did the same, looking at it from my perspective, WWE in this era as hot as it’s ever been. Why wouldn’t we want CM Punk?

“I got to share that moment at Royal Rumble with CM Punk. One of the most important superstars of my generation, I got to throw him out. I think he’s a great addition to the locker room. I feel terrible he tore his tricep. He has a whole run ahead of him. He’s been wonderful since he came back,” Cody Rhodes said.
