Blackhawks Sign Louis Crevier to 3-Year Contract

On Tuesday, the Blackhawks announced the signing of former seventh-round pick defenseman Louis Crevier. Crevier was selected with the 188th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Crevier is officially interim GM Kyle Davidson’s first signing. The defenseman’s cap hit is $850,833 in each of the three years.

The Blackhawks traded back into the seventh round in 2020 to select the 6-foot-8 defenseman. In addition, with his signing, the Blackhawks have already inked three of their 2020 draft selections.

As noted above, Isaak Phillips, who is already playing with the Blackhawks, and Lukas Reichel were the first two 2020 picks to sign. Now, Crevier joins that class after spending three seasons with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). However, in 2021-22, Crevier is with the Quebec Remparts, also of the QMJHL, where he has three goals and three assists in eight games.

After his hot start with the Remparts, the Blackhawks decided to lock up the seventh-round selection. It’s too early to tell, but Crevier could be a value draft pick for the team if he finds a role in the NHL in the coming seasons.

In addition, Crevier is the fifth seventh-round selection since 2010 to sign with the Blackhawks. He joins Mac Carruth, Alex Broadhurst, Matt Tomkins, and Josiah Slavin as seventh-rounders to sign with Chicago.
