The first official trailer for 'Impeachment: American Crime Story' is here

It has been over 23 years since the scandalous sexual relationship between President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky came to public light and rocked the nation, resulting in Clinton's December 1998 impeachment, but Impeachment: American Crime Story makes it feel as if no time as passed at all.

FX debuted the official trailer for the third season of American Crime Story on Thursday (Aug. 12):

In the nearly two-minute clip, we're introduced to Beanie Feldstein as Lewinsky as she starts her first day as an intern at the White House. She briefly catches the glimpse of Clinton, played by Clive Owen, and is told to "be professional."

Linda Tripp (Sarah Paulson) then exposes their illicit affair through her recordings of phone conversations she had been collecting without Lewinsky's knowledge or consent.

"This isn't about justice," Ann Coulter (Cobie Smulders) says once the news breaks, and she makes it clear that the goal is to impeach Clinton.

The trailer ends with Clinton declaring on national television his most infamous line: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman."

Edie Falco also stars as Hillary Clinton. Billy Eichner plays Matt Drudge, and Annaleigh Ashford plays Paula Jones.

Impeachment, just as the entire American Crime Story anthology series that includes 2016's The People v. OJ Simpson and 2018's The Assassination of Gianni Versace, is executive produced by Ryan Murphy. Lewinsky served as a producer as well.

The first episode will premiere Sept. 7.
