The best sitcom episodes of the 2010s

We all have our favorite comfort sitcoms that we put on every now and then, with standout episodes that give us life all over again with every rewatch. Here are some of the best sitcom episodes of the 2010s.

'How I Met Your Mother,' S5E12: "Girls vs. Suits" (2010)

'How I Met Your Mother,' S5E12: "Girls vs. Suits" (2010)
CBS

There have been better HIMYM episodes before this one, but "Girls vs. Suits" was the first episode of 2010 and certainly made an impression. The reason for my ranking would have to be Barney's super catchy "Nothing Suits Me Like A Suit" song, which I may or may not have bought on iTunes (yes, iTunes). Of course, Barney has since cleaned up his act after becoming a father at the end of season nine and proving himself yet again in his cameo appearance in How I Met Your Father, where he apparently received a shock therapy device that shocks him whenever he says something inappropriate.

'The Office,' S7E17: "Threat Level Midnight" (2011)

'The Office,' S7E17: "Threat Level Midnight" (2011)
NBC

If you're a fan of The Office, and even if you aren't, chances are you know why this episode makes the list. Michael screens his long-awaited film, Threat Level Midnight, ten years after his employees discovered the unfinished screenplay. It has everything: sports, jazz, robots, an original dance number, and top-tier acting by the Dunder Mifflin crew.

'Community,' S3E4: "Remedial Chaos Theory" (2011)

'Community,' S3E4: "Remedial Chaos Theory" (2011)
IMDb

"Remedial Chaos Theory" is definitely one of the more memorable episodes of the entire series, and they have had some good ones. During Troy and Abed's housewarming party, Abed considers six alternate realities after Jeff rolls the dice to determine who should get the pizza from downstairs. Odds are you've seen the meme where Troy walks in with the pizza, and everything is on fire. Yep, that one.

'30 Rock,' S6E8: "The Tuxedo Begins" (2012)

'30 Rock,' S6E8: "The Tuxedo Begins" (2012)
IMDb

It's so difficult to choose a single best episode of 30 Rock (at least during the 2010s), but I will try! I have good memories associated with "The Tuxedo Begins," not only because it's Batman-themed but because it's so quotable, providing my best friend and me with many inside jokes. A personal favorite: "GIVE ME TWENTY DOLLARS!" Oh, and please see the Steve Buscemi "How Do You Do, Fellow Kids?" meme for reference.

'New Girl,' S2E7: "Menzies" (2012)

'New Girl,' S2E7: "Menzies" (2012)
IMDb

I considered choosing a sweet episode with exciting moments between Nick and Jess, but "Menzies" just makes me laugh. I love Nick's one-sided conversations with his newfound friend, Tran, that show him how to be at peace, which he later uses to soothe Jess and her period pain. The most memorable moment is probably Jess crying at a small puppy in a cup.

'Parks and Recreation,' S4E11: "The Comeback Kid" (2012)

'Parks and Recreation,' S4E11: "The Comeback Kid" (2012)
NBC

Who can forget the ice rink campaign? Everything went wrong, but at least the few feet of red carpet made for a luxurious walk into the middle of the rink. "The Comeback Kid" also gave us the depressed Ben Wyatt claymation meme, so there's that.

'Workaholics,' S3E1: "The Business Trip" (2012)

'Workaholics,' S3E1: "The Business Trip" (2012)
IMDb

The guys decide that a business trip is the best time to try acid because why not? This episode is memorable for obvious reasons, but I absolutely love when their boss, Alice, gets tangled up in their shenanigans.

'Bob's Burgers,' S4E5: "Turkey in a Can" (2013)

'Bob's Burgers,' S4E5: "Turkey in a Can" (2013)
IMDb

Again, this was a tough call, especially since I watch literally all of the Thanksgiving episodes every year, but this one is probably my favorite because the turkey ends up, well, in the toilet. Honorable mentions (and non-Thanksgiving episodes) include Season 2, Episode 8, "Bad Tina," and Season 3, Episode 7, "Tina-Rannosaurus Wrecks." Lots of love for Tina.

'Don't Trusts the B in Apartment 23,' S2E14: "Teddy Trouble" (2013)

'Don't Trusts the B in Apartment 23,' S2E14: "Teddy Trouble" (2013)
Yidio

Don't Trust the B deserved so many more seasons because I wanted to see how much more ridiculous James Van Der Beek's version of himself would have gotten. "Teddy Trouble" features James' "Beek Jeans" and Chloe's old friend from psychopath camp, Teddy, who surprises Chloe with his annual visit while off his medication. It's as wild as it sounds. The best scene is when Chloe, June, and Teddy fight off people at a store's warehouse sale.

'Rick and Morty,' S1E8: "Rixty Minutes" (2014)

'Rick and Morty,' S1E8: "Rixty Minutes" (2014)
IMDb

First off, creator Justin Roiland's domestic violence allegations are a major bummer as far as the future of Rick and Morty goes — and troubling for obvious reasons — but the show can and will go on without him. While I was a fan, the first interdimensional cable episode was some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen. Alternate dimension characters of note: "Ants in my Eyes Johnson," "Baby Legs," and the two brothers from Alien Invasion Tomato Monster Mexican Armada Brothers Who Are Just Regular Brothers Running In A Van From An Asteroid And All Sorts Of Things: The Movie, otherwise known as Two Brothers.

'The Mindy Project,' S2E22: "Danny and Mindy" (2014)

'The Mindy Project,' S2E22: "Danny and Mindy" (2014)
Entertainment Weekly

Mindy Kaling is, in a word, a genius. Everything she touches is incredible and hilarious. I would have watched The Mindy Project forever, but thankfully, Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls exist. "Danny and Mindy" is a nod to our favorite romantic comedies and a great season finale for the on-again, off-again couple.

'You're the Worst,' S2E7: "There Is Not Currently A Problem" (2015)

'You're the Worst,' S2E7: "There Is Not Currently A Problem" (2015)
IMDb

You're the Worst is so underrated! This is a show that dives deep into what mental illness can look like for different people, and the statement that "There Is Not Currently A Problem" makes is that sometimes there isn't a straightforward way to fix the problem. Seeing a more realistic and compassionate take on mental health is refreshing, especially in relationships.

'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,' S10E4: "Charlie Work" (2015)

'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,' S10E4: "Charlie Work" (2015)
FXX

"Charlie Work" is one of the most impressive episodes, with the ten-minute shot following Charlie around Päddy's Pub. Fans finally got a behind-the-scenes look at what Charlie does for the bar to pass the health inspection. He knows what he's doing, so when he tells you to move the dumpster a couple of inches, you better move it.

'Schitt's Creek,' S1E6: "Wine and Roses" (2015)

'Schitt's Creek,' S1E6: "Wine and Roses" (2015)
PopTV/Netflix

Yes, this is the episode featuring the iconic Moira/Herb Ertlinger fruit wine commercial. Besides the obvious, my favorite moment is, "This wine is awful; get me another glass." Honorable mentions include Season 2, Episodes 1–2, "Finding David," and "Family Dinner," where Moira and David collectively attempt to fold in the cheese.

'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,' S2E2: "When Will Josh See How Cool I Am?" (2016)

'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,' S2E2: "When Will Josh See How Cool I Am?" (2016)
IMDb

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has given us so many amazing musical numbers it's hard to choose just one episode. My favorite song has always been "Greg's Drinking Song," but I somehow forgot that "Maybe This Dream" and "Ping Pong Girl" are in the same episode, so "When Will Josh See How Cool I Am?" is the obvious choice.

'I'm Sorry,' S1E9: "Weekend Alone" (2017)

'I'm Sorry,' S1E9: "Weekend Alone" (2017)
IMDb

Created by comedian Andrea Savage, I'm Sorry is another underrated sitcom and comedy writer's dream. With executive producers Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and all three of The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone), how could it not be perfect? The episode follows Andrea as she finally gets a weekend alone to hang out with her single friends, one of whom is played by Jason Mantzoukas, the official tall tale sign that it's good. I don't make the rules.

'BoJack Horseman,' S4E6: "Stupid Piece of S@!#" (2017)

'BoJack Horseman,' S4E6: "Stupid Piece of S@!#" (2017)
IMDb

This episode resonates hard with those who struggle with negative self-talk from the moment they wake up until they fall asleep at night. BoJack Horseman will hit you right in the feels when you don't expect it, even though you should totally expect it. The kicker is at the end when BoJack tells his daughter that the voices eventually go away despite his daily struggles with his mental health.

'The Good Place,' S3E10: "Janet(s)" (2018)

'The Good Place,' S3E10: "Janet(s)" (2018)
NBC

"Janet(s)" was D'Arcy Carden's time to shine! Eleanor, Chidi, Jason, and Tahani find themselves in Janet's world, where they all appear as Janet. D'Arcy absolutely killed it and deserves all the awards. An honorable mention would have to be Season 1, Episode 13, "Michael's Gambit," for obvious reasons. If you know, you know.

'Brooklyn Nine-Nine,' S5E17: "DFW" (2018)

'Brooklyn Nine-Nine,' S5E17: "DFW" (2018)
IMDb

Brooklyn Nine-Nine had one of the best cold opens with "DFW." Yes, the police lineup where Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) sings along with the suspects to Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way." To be honest, I don't remember much else about the episode, but I think it's okay.

'Barry,' S2E5: "ronny/lily" (2019)

'Barry,' S2E5: "ronny/lily" (2019)
HBO

"Ronny/lily" is probably one of the most memorable episodes of Barry ever to exist. It is as hilarious as Lily's abilities are insane. After essentially offering his target, Ronny, a way out, the apparent Taekwondo master attacks Barry after initially agreeing to his proposal. This begins a long fight/chase sequence with Barry and Ronny's daughter, who her father has obviously trained. An impressive thing of note: the eleven-year-old girl who played Lily actually did some of her own stunts.
