Sarah Jessica Parker on 'Sex and the City' revival: 'We're back because we want to be'

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon reminisced on their Sex and the City limited series revival And Just Like That... for HBO Max's "The Roundtable," released Sunday (Dec. 26).

"We're back because we want to be," SJP asserted. "Nobody dragged us back. This was a hard-fought choice to be here and to tell this story in this way—and invite these new people."

AJLT finds Carrie (Parker), Charlotte (Davis) and Miranda (Nixon) still in New York City "as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s."

The series, which premiered Dec. 9, marks the first time SATC fans have seen their beloved characters since 2010's Sex and the City 2 movie. SATC originally aired on HBO from 1998 to 2004 before returning for the first spinoff full-length film in 2008.

Kim Cattrall did not reprise her role of Samantha Jones for AJLT. Added to the cast were Sara Ramirez, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman and Sarita Choudhury.

"We had this idea to come back in this way that we've come back with a new, kind of broader world," Davis added. "They're so brilliantly cast, and they have such an interesting point of view."

"We're very aware of the good fortune that surrounds just this effort this time," Parker noted, leading Nixon to say, "You can never go home again, except very occasionally, you actually can. This amazing thing that happened in your life, you know, 25 years ago."

That made Parker emotional. "To be together is really great," she said, tearing up. "I didn't think it was gonna happen."

New episodes of AJLT hit HBO Max every Thursday.
