Rami Malek recalls personal encounter with Kate Middleton: 'I think I caught her off guard'

Rami Malek attended the world premiere of No Time to Die at London's Royal Albert Hall last week, and it brought back memories from when the BAFTA Awards were held at the venue in February 2019, when he won best leading actor for his portrayal of the late Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were present for both occasions.

"I had some familiarity with Princess Kate [Middleton] and Prince Will," Malek said on Tuesday's Jimmy Kimmel Live of the Bond premiere. "That was lovely. We had a little chat. We had a nice little chat."

The Oscar winner continued, this time referencing the 2019 BAFTAs:

"What's fascinating, I mean, they work so hard to get to know everybody—whatever film they've done, their past films—and you can see they've done their homework. And I just looked at Princess Kate at one point, and I said, 'This must be exhausting.' And she [said], 'Why?' I said, 'You just had a baby, right?' I think she was taken aback. She said, 'How are you doing?' And I said, 'No, how are you?' In the most regal, elegant way, she ... gave me a look. But you could tell. I mean, imagine: dressed to the nines, have to talk to all these actors."

Middleton had given birth to Prince Louis in April 2018. She and Prince William also share Prince George, 8, and Princess Charlotte, 6.

"They're so careful, but it was so cool because I think I caught her off guard for a second," Malek added. "I had that look of, in the most elegant, professional, royal way, 'Yes, it's a lot having a kid.'"

The 40-year-old actor even offered to babysit for the Royal Family, but it's likely that will be the one thing he does not get a callback for.

In No Time to Die, Malek plays villain Lyutsifer Safin. The 25th film in the Bond franchise, it is Daniel Craig's final bow as 007 after embodying the iconic spy across five films since 2006.

"We've become really good friends," Malek said of his relationship with the 53-year-old star after filming NTTD. The two have been questioned lately about a rumored on-set kiss:
