Lisa Kudrow was the opposite of Phoebe Buffay as a kid

In Friends, Lisa Kudrow played freewheeling Phoebe Buffay.

In real life, Kudrow grew up in Los Angeles, California, following the rules and "had no friends."

The Emmy-winning actress stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden alongside her HouseBroken co-star Clea DuVall when Corden asked them about being Valley girls and whether they had Valley girl accents.

"I tried really hard not to because I was studying my vocabulary words and everything and, you know, saying every sound that I'm supposed to, and so, I had no friends," Kudrow explained.

Corden then asked what "a young Lisa Kudrow" was like, leading to an even more interesting revelation. When Corden proposed that she would have gotten into trouble, Kudrow's eyes widened.

"No!" she said with a laugh. "No. My parents forced me to ditch summer school one day. I said, 'Uh, my friends aren't going to school today. They're going to the beach.' And my father said, 'It's summer! You're going with them!' ... I guess it was OK. I was so uncomfortable all day."

That starkly contrasts with Phoebe, who grew up on the street and refused societal norms such as PBS or Pottery Barn.

Kudrow presumably last saw Corden while filming Friends: The Reunion in early April. The unscripted HBO Max special, which dropped on the streamer May 27, brought all six Friends stars together for only the second time since the iconic '90s sitcom wrapped in 2004.

"It was really surprisingly emotional," Kudrow said of Friends: The Reunion. "I mean, I felt like I was crying all day one of the days."
