Howard University renaming the College of Fine Arts after Chadwick Boseman

Howard University is honoring Chadwick Boseman in an unrivaled way.

The Washington, D.C.-based university announced Wednesday (May 26) that its newly re-established college of fine arts will be named the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts (h/t Variety).

This news comes two weeks after Phylicia Rashad was appointed dean of Howard's College of Fine Arts. The iconic actress had previously served as a guest lecturer and adjunct faculty member at Howard. Boseman, who died last August at 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer, was one of her students.

Variety shared a statement from the Black Panther star's family:

"Chad fought to preserve the College of Fine Arts during his matriculation at Howard and remained dedicated to the fight throughout his career, and he would be overjoyed by this development. His time at Howard University helped shape both the man and the artist that he became, committed to truth, integrity and a determination to transform the world through the power of storytelling. We are confident that under the dynamic leadership of his former professor and mentor the indomitable Phylicia Rashad that the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts will inspire artistic scholars for many generations."

Boseman also gave Howard's 2018 commencement speech, which you can watch below.
