Hilary Duff on 'Lizzie McGuire' reboot: 'It's not dead, and it's not alive'

We want that defunct Disney Plus "Lizzie McGuire" reboot as badly as Lizzie once wanted a bra.

It's been just over a year since Hilary Duff announced that the revival series "isn't going to happen" anymore, and on the heels of her "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off series "How I Met Your Father" premiering on Hulu this week, the 34-year-old actress and singer is providing more insight.

"I would be lying if I didn't say I didn't have those thoughts a few times," Duff told Cosmopolitan when asked if she had considered leaking the episodes that were filmed or reviving the revival series yet again. "But I wouldn't, because in my 34 years I've realized that everything does happen for a reason. There's a time and a place for everything. It just wasn't her moment. I'm constantly asked about it still. All it does is breathe life into the fact that people still want it, and that's really sweet. It's not dead, and it's not alive."

The "Younger" star also revealed what the plot would have been: "My character was moving back home with her parents because she caught her soon-to-be fiancé cheating on her, and she was falling flat on her face at the moment and being like, 'I need to pivot because everything that I thought was wasn't, and I'm turning 30. What the f—k?'"

It was first reported in August 2019 that Disney Plus had greenlit a "Lizzie McGuire" revival series with Duff reprising her titular role and original creator Terry Minsky also returning.

Duff even shared photos from what appeared to be a very happy, wonderfully nostalgic set.

But when Minsky exited the project in January 2020, things crumbled pretty quickly.

"Lizzie" originally aired for two seasons from 2001-2004 on Disney, plus "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" in 2003.
