HBO Max's official teaser for the 'Gossip Girl' reboot is here

"XOXO, Gossip Girl."

It has been over eight years since we've heard what was once the most chilling line in all of teenage drama television—until today (May 28).

HBO Max unveiled the first official teaser for the Gossip Girl reboot series:

Kristen Bell reprised her voiceover role as Gossip Girl for the reboot, though no other original cast members will be present, and narrated the 70-second glimpse into the modern-day Upper East Side:

"You've gotten so comfortable, thinking you're in control—of your image, your actions, the narrative—that you forgot one thing. I can see you. And before I'm through, I'll make sure you see you, too. You know you love me. XOXO."

The original Gossip Girl quickly went from indulgent teen soap on The CW to ubiquitous pop culture movement. Created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the series orbited around the idea of an anonymous blogger exposing the underbelly of high schoolers living privileged lives on the Upper East Side.

Gossip Girl ran for six seasons from 2007-12, long before social media truly monopolized the world. Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle starred in all 121 episodes. Taylor Momsen and Jessica Szohr were also staples.

Last summer, Badgley and Crawford caught up for Variety and reminisced on the early days of Gossip Girl, which Crawford called "ahead of its time" (beginning around the 17-minute mark):

This time around, with Schwartz still involved as a creator, Gossip Girl takes aim at "a new generation of New York private school teens using social media to spread gossip."

For more insight into the reboot, meet the cast in this Spring 2021 Dazed feature.
