Eddie Murphy confirms 'Chappelle's Show' Prince sketch 'totally and absolutely accurate'

"Game, blouses."

That line will forever be linked to the Chappelle's Show sketch—and has probably been repeated on countless basketball courts across America as a result—in which the late Charlie Murphy recounts one fated night where he took on Prince in hoops. The bit is so absurd that it was long assumed to be a fictional tale spun for the sake of comedic genius, but his younger brother Eddie Murphy confirmed the events as true.

"That was totally and absolutely accurate," the 59-year-old Coming 2 America star said during Thursday night's The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. "We had on stuff from the club, so we had on club clothes, and Prince had on that outfit that was in the 'Kiss' video, where he had the little short shirt and the leather jacket with the buttons and stuff. ... He was like, 'Y'all wanna play some basketball?' We was like, 'What? You wanna play some basketball?'"

Murphy added that Charlie, who passed away from leukemia in 2017, said to the group, "Alright, it's gonna be shirts against blouses." Prince, of course, won.

Murphy isn't the first to dispel this myth. "Everything in that skit is true," Micki Free told The Undefeated's Jerry Bembry in 2016. "I played in that game, and Prince was Steph Curry all night!"

The "True Hollywood Stories: Prince & Red Balls Energy Drink" episode aired in February 2004. Chappelle's Show  ran from 2003-06, though primarily for two seasons in '03 and '04, and earned three Primetime Emmy nominations. There had recently been controversy surrounding the series going to Netflix, but Dave Chappelle eventually gave his blessing.
