Drew Barrymore recalls joyride on Keanu Reeves' motorcycle ride for her 16th birthday: 'The ride of my life'

Drew Barrymore welcomed Keanu Reeves on to her eponymous daytime talk show Tuesday (Dec. 21), but the two A-listers go way back to at least the 1986 television movie Babes in Toyland.

"We had so much fun making it," Barrymore remembered, adding. "I'm just looking back from 1986 until now, we have both had the privilege and fortune to keep going. And what a gift and a blessing that is."

After praising Reeves for aging so gracefully in the industry and setting a positive example, Barrymore had a very fond memory she wanted to reminisce on with him:

"I was at this club, and it was my 16th birthday, and you came in. This is the memory I have of it. If you have anything to add or change, please let me know. You walked in, grabbed my hand, and you took me outside, and you put me on your motorcycle, and we drove at the warp speed of my life. You took me on the ride of my life, and I was so free. I was such a free human being, and it was just this moment where I just remember loving life and being so happy. I hold it so dear because the older we get, the harder it is to get to that feeling."

Reeves struggled to remember the specifics of that night, but the actor pinpointed that one of the first moments he experienced feeling free was when he declared at 15 years old that he wanted to act for a living after discovering his "sense of being free was play."

"It was fun," he explained. "Make believe, but reality. Connection. A group, collaboration. And also, the imagination; it's public, it's private, it's together, it's shared. Commune. You tell a story. I love stories. Stories ... help us contextualize the world. Help us see it."

Later in the conversation, Reeves spoke about The Matrix Resurrections and touted it as "a love story":

The Matrix Resurrections is the fourth installment in the Matrix franchise and first since 2003. The highly anticipated film hits theaters Wednesday (Dec. 22). Watch the trailers below.
