‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ is reportedly closer to filming

Eddie Murphy will soon reprise Axel Foley.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beverly Hills Cop 4 is inching closer to beginning production in California:

“California’s Film & TV tax credit program has unveiled another 23 new movies—10 studio movies and 13 indies—to shoot in the state, including top spenders like Jean-Marc Vallée’s untitled John Lennon and Yoko Ono feature (Universal), Zack Snyder’s sci-fi adventure Rebel Moon (Netflix) and Jerry Bruckheimer’s Beverly Hills Cop 4 (Netflix).

“Beverly Hills Cop 4, the result of a one-time licensing deal between Netflix and Paramount to produce the reboot of the franchise that began in 1984, is set to generate $78 million in qualified spending in the state (defined as below-the-line wages to California workers and payments to in-state vendors) over the course of 58 filming days in the state, including in San Bernardino.”

Murphy debuted as Foley in the original 1984 Beverly Hills Cop, directed by Martin Brest. The comedy followed Foley as a Detroit policeman investigating the murder of his childhood friend and tracing a lead all the way to Beverly Hills. The sequel came in 1987, directed by Tony Scott, and then Beverly Hills Cop III arrived in 1994, directed by John Landis.

Murphy gave a vague and sort of discouraging update on the project in mid-March while visiting Desus & Mero

“They’ve been trying to make another Beverly Hills Cop for 15 years now,” the 60-year-old comedy icon said (h/t CinemaBlend). “Right now, Netflix has it, and they’re trying to develop a script. That’s what we’re supposed to be doing next, but I’m not doing nothing until the script is right.”
