Actors who played characters with supernatural powers

I couldn’t start this list without mentioning one of the best Disney Channel original movies ever. Twitches, starring Tia and Tamera Mowry from Sister, Sister, was a movie about twin witches separated at birth that reunited by chance on their 21st birthday. Together, they learned to overcome their differences, use their powers, and save their kingdom from darkness. 

Who could forget about Melissa Joan Hart in the ABC series Sabrina the Teenage Witch? Hart played Sabrina Spellman, a teenager who discovers she’s a witch on her 16th birthday. The comedy series, based on the Archie Comic of the same name, ran for seven seasons from 1996 to 2003 and has spawned many spin-offs, including the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix. 

Whether or not folks want to admit it, The Twilight Saga took the world by storm. Robert Pattinson, who originated the role of Edward Cullen, a 108-year-old vampire who appears 17 to the eye, not only could read minds but had super lightning speed. Between 2008 and 2012, five films were released under the Twilight franchise.  

What kind of list would this be without the heroic Daniel Radcliffe? Or should I say, Harry Potter? The British actor portrayed the titular character in the Harry Potter film franchise from 2001 to 2011. The films have been wildly popular among audiences, grossing $7.7 billion at the box office. 

Some call it magic, the things I see. At least that’s what Raven-Symoné says. Many fans remember her from her time on the Disney Channel original series, That’s So Raven. She played the wildly entertaining Raven Baxter, a teenager who tries to use her psychic powers for her good but always gets in trouble. The series ran for a total of four seasons from 2003 to 2007. In 2017, a spin-off titled Raven’s Home premiered on Disney to 3.5 million people and is currently airing its sixth season. 

Only a handful of Disney Channel shows can actually make an audience laugh, and The Wizards of Waverly Place was one of them. Of course, much of the show's comedic effects are thanks to Selena Gomez, who plays Alex Russo, a witch who trains alongside her brothers to compete in their family wizard competition. The series finale, “Who Will Be The Family Wizard?” was watched by 9.8 million people and is the fourth most viewed Disney Channel original series episode ever. 

Hey, Hermione Granger is just as important in Harry Potter as Potter himself. The snappy and judicious student, played by Emma Watson, has become one of the most popular characters in the Harry Potter franchise. She’s kind, loyal, and tries her hardest to do what’s right. What more could you ask for in a friend? 

Some may recognize Claire Holt from films such as Mean Girls 2 and Untitled Horror Party. But did you know her start was on the children’s based show H2O: Just Add Water? Claire originated the role of Emma, a young woman who can freeze water just like that. Another interesting fact is that she sprouts a tail whenever she comes in contact with any liquid substance. The series was so popular that it aired 78 episodes, spawning the spin-off Mako: Island of Secrets.  

Another fan favorite from the Twilight zeitgeist is none other than Taylor Lautner. He captured the attention of many worldwide due to his portrayal of Jacob Black, a shapeshifting werewolf who falls madly in love with Edward Cullen’s love interest, Bella Swan. Many have praised Lautner for his mindblowing transformation between the first and second films, where he gained 30 pounds of muscle for the movie. 

This would be no list without the likes of Kimberly J. Brown. Or, as some may call her, Marnie Piper — a teenage witch who discovers she’s a witch while striving to save Halloweentown from a warlock named Kalabar. The series, which included four films, has been a popular rewatch option among fans during the spooky season. 

Everyone loves Tom Holland, aka Peter Parker, from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Holland’s character possesses super strength, super speed, super agility, and enhanced spidey senses… just to name a few. He’s received one Critics’ Choice Award for his work in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Craig T. Nelson, or Mr. Incredible, as folks prefer to call him, deserves to be on this list with the greats. Although this character is animated, we still believe he is still essential in the superhero lineup of today. He used his super strength to stop Bomb Voyage, a train about to crash and saved his family from his “arch nemesis” syndrome. What more could you ask for in a super?

Despite my vendetta against Ron Weasley, Rupert Grint has to be on this list. Of course, he balances the trio in the Harry Potter films, often using his strategic thinking skills to get them out of the stickiest of situations. In 2022, Rupert admitted he has a weird relationship with Ron; however, he would undoubtedly play him again if given the chance. 

Did you forget that Sarah Jessica Parker played the role of Sarah Sanderson in the Walt Disney film Hocus Pocus? The film follows a group of witches on their quest to become immortal. Over the years, the film has gained an extremely loyal fan base, spawning a sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, which premiered on Disney+ in 2022. 

For the Justin Russo enthusiasts out there, you’ll be glad to see I included him in our list of actors with supernatural powers. Of course, he’s most known for playing the role of the mature and responsible oldest brother in The Wizards of Waverly Place. He also had additional roles on other Disney shows, including, That’s So Raven, Jonas, and The Suite Life on Deck.
