30 tracks with the potential to be the song of the summer 2023

As a producer and DJ, Kaytranada is no stranger to teaming up with other artists to make magic. He surprised fans when he announced his collaboration alongside rapper Aminé. They combined their names to form the duo Kaytraminé and joined forces with Pharrell on their first single, "4EVA." Naturally, the song comes with the signature dance groove from Kaytranada, Aminé glides effortlessly with his bars, and Pharrell shines bright as he sings the hook. 

Miley Cyrus was already set to take over the warm season with the name of her eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation. Her lead single, "Flowers" may have been released in early January, but it's still managed to stay on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for months. With an interpolation of Gloria Gaynor's hit song "I Will Survive," the disco and pop influences give "Flowers" a smooth groove that's perfect for that summer feeling. 

British R&B group FLO has been named as an artist to watch on plenty of publication lists since last year. They teamed up with rap legend Missy Elliott on their latest single, "Fly Girl," a track that female independence during a ladies' night out. In addition to Elliott's bars, the song also interpolates the rapper's 2002 hit track "Work It." As the girls say on the track, "I got plans tonight, you ain't part of them / 'Cause my girls and I, yeah, we all a ten / Know it's ladies night, shout to all of them / Put your one's up in the sky if you a fly."

After having a massive 2022 thanks to her collaboration with Sam Smith on "Unholy," Kim Petras returns with her latest single "Alone." Teaming up with Nicki Minaj, the track uses a joyful sample of Alice Deejay's 1999 single "Better Off Alone," a song that always gets people on the dance floor. As Petras sings about desiring some love and affection from a partner, the track is sure to leave listeners feeling fun and flirty. 

Tyler, the Creator wants his partner to fully commit to their relationship on his track "WHARF TALK." The breezy production makes for the perfect summer feeling as Tyler highlights how he probably shouldn't fall in love again, but he's willing to take his chances. As he says on the hook, "I want you to come get lost with me / Ask you one more time before I tread too deep / So can you make up your mind / A wave's gonna come, wave's gonna come."

The Jonas Brothers want to show love and admiration for their partners on their track "Summer Baby." When one is in a relationship, everyone wants that feeling of still being "in like" with their partner. As the brothers sing on the hook, "You feel like summer, baby, heatin' up my body / Too much tequila, now, we're dancin' in the lobby / Know every inch upon that body, but the feelin' is new / Still catchin' feelings for you."

Fans have been waiting for Victoria Monét to release the follow-up to her 2002 EP Jaguar. Well, fans don't have to wait any longer as she's set to release Jaguar II during the summer and she's showing everyone she hasn't missed a beat with her latest single "Party Girls." With assistance from Buju Banton, Monét brings Caribbean and dancehall influences to the sensual R&B track that is sure to make listeners want to show off their best dance moves. 

Jack Harlow surprised fans when he decided to drop his third album Jackman without any singles leading up to its release date. On the lead single "They Don't Love It," Harlow has no problem being confident in his rapping prowess. It's evident in the first verse as he says, "Ya boy's strivin' to be the most dominant ever / The hardest white boy since the one who rapped about vomit and sweaters." That line caused quite a stir on social media as people debated his skills compared to Eminem. 

For music fans who appreciate a little nostalgia, IDK's song "Pinot Noir," is perfect. The rapper teams up with Jucee Froot and Saucy Santana on the smooth track, which also samples Khia's "My Neck, My Back" and Michael Jackson's "I Can't Help It." The laidback and chill production makes the track perfect for a summer day party. 

Girl group Fifty Fifty became a TikTok viral sensation thanks to their hit single "Cupid." Breaking records across Spotify and Billboard charts, the song is a win for K-pop music and how much this genre sees global success. The disco and funky baseline on "Cupid" makes for an essential dance track. 

TDE's newest signee Doechii returns with her latest single "What It Is." With samples of TLC's 1999 hit "No Scrubs" and Trillville's "Some Cut," Doechii uses the track to describe the type of love she wants and needs. As she says on the hook, "Every good girl needs a little thug / Every block boy needs a little love / If you put it down, I'ma pick it up, up."  

Ed Sheeran returned with his sixth album Subtract, which was led by the single "Eyes Closed." The song is dedicated to a friend of his who unfortunately lost his life in 2022. On the track, Sheeran describes his best ways to cope and deal with the grief. As he sings on the hook, "Still dancing with my eyes closed / 'Cause everywhere I look, I still see you."  

It's hard to believe that it's been five years since Janelle Monae released her previous album. Well, the singer is back with new music, and her latest single, "Lipstick Lover" took social media by storm. The track finds Monae with the admiration and desire to get a little intimate with a partner. It's evident from the first verse as she sings, "I like lipstick on my neck / It let me know I'm your number one select / I like lipstick on my neck / Hands around my waist so you know what's comin' next."

Rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars is gearing up to release their sixth album, It's the End of the World but It's a Beautiful Day. The lead single "Stuck" finds the band singing about being caught under a partner's spell that they can't seem to shake. Their feelings are heard throughout the lyrics as they sing, "It's the way you move / I knew I'd stay with you after just one touch / The way you move has got me.. stuck."

Hip-hop is having a big year and it's partially due to newcomers like Lola Brooke setting the scene. On her single "Just Relax," Brooke brings her Brooklyn flare to the stereo-blazing track, which is perfect alongside the sample of Black Sheep's "The Choice Is Yours." With a rap cadence reminiscent of rap legends like Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown, Brooke is definitely an artist to watch. 

A plethora of sounds from disco, R&B, and house is heard throughout Jessie Ware's newest album That! Feels Good! Ware is ready to have a fun, steamy, and intimate night with a partner on her track properly titled, "Freak Me Now." The disco and house-laced production makes for a perfect dance track as Ware details her desires singing, "That sparkle in my eye, you are a jewel, baby / Ooh, baby, do what you do, baby / Come make a move, baby / You know I want you."

Thundercat and Tame Impala make for a perfect musical pair on their single "No More Lies." Their signature styles blend seamlessly as the song helps drift a listener's mind to a psychedelic realm. On the track, they detail how the truth and lies can have different consequences in a relationship. As Thundercat sings in the first verse, "I'm sorry, girl, didn't mean to drag you in my dreams / Baby, no more lies / Feelin' free, that's the way it's s'posed to be / For you and me."

The worlds of dance and country collide as Diplo and Lily Rose team up on "Sad in the Summer." On the track, Rose details how love probably won't last forever, but she wants to enjoy the moment and the warm season. As she sings on the hook, I don't wanna be sad in the summer, so / Can you just hold me close a little longer? / Keep makin' love while the sun shines / When September comes, wе'll say goodbye."

If the summer calls for spending long nights outside or partying at a club, then Jorja Smith's latest single, "Little Things" deserves some rotation. On the track, Smith describes going out with friends and meeting someone that catches her eye. Her feelings are on full display on the hook, "It's the little things that gets me high / Won't you come with me and spend the night? / Just a little thing for you and I / And if it's meant to be, then that's alright."

Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny climbed the Billboard charts since April with their single "un x100to." The success of the song most likely also saw a surge when Bad Bunny brought the band out to perform the track during his Coachella set. The romantic cumbia track finds the band singing about someone apologizing to their partner for wrongdoing. 

DJ and producer ILLENIUM teaming up with Avril Lavigne and Travis Barker is the perfect collaboration for fans who enjoy the nostalgia of 2000s rock-pop music. In their single "Eyes Wide Shut," Lavigne questions whether or not she should stay in a relationship that no longer serves her. As she sings on the hook, "I say I love you, but I don't / I say I'm fine, but I'm miserable / Oh, 'cause I don't get high off you anymore."

On Chlöe's single "Body Do," the singer details the feelings of dealing with an unfaithful partner, but it's hard for her to call it quits because she still wants the familiarity of the relationship. She knows her partner can't be trusted, but she still wants him around, "You know I can't trust you / As far as I can throw you / But I'mma trust what that body do."

If there's an artist who knows all about getting higher than the skies, it's Snoop Dogg. It's no wonder that pop singer Bebe Rexha recruited the rapper for her single "Satellite." The track is perfect for people who enjoy cannabis, as Rexha sings on the hook, "Last night, I got higher than a satellite / I took a one-way ticket, it's a one-man mission to paradise." 

Thanks to the world of TikTok, one of the most dominant songs of the year comes from PinkPantheress and Ice Spice with “Boy’s a Liar, Pt. 2." On the track, the two detail dealing with a guy who doesn't treat them right and consistently leads them on.  

Summer is one of those seasons that automatically puts people in a better mood. Big Freedia and Ciara joined forces on their energetic and optimistic single "$100 Bill" which encourages people to feel good. It's filled with positive affirmations such as "Walked in looking like a $100 bill / New money, that's how I feel / Yeah I’m pop, pop, poppin’ for real / And I look like a $100 bill." 

Country singer Luke Bryan is getting ready for the summer by popping a cold libation on his new single "But I Got a Beer in My Hand." Throughout the track, Bryan sings about having a good time and living his best life. 

Michaël Brun's latest single "Charge It" blends the worlds of dancehall, jazz, and coupé-décalé. Between Masego, Jozzy, and Bayka owning their signature styles, Brun is able to mesh their sounds to perfection for a track that is sure to keep people on the dance floor. 

Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro express their love and affection for each other in their single "BESO." In the music video, they showcase behind-the-scenes videos of their daily lives before revealing their engagement at the end. For people who are already for summer love, this track deserves a lot of spins. 

Nigerian artist Mannywellz brings his Afro-soul vibe to his smooth single "Magic." On the track, Mannywellz describes thoughts of admiration and lust for his partner. As he sings on the hook, "Take it easy, baby / Before I have your baby / You do that thang / We gon' make magic." 

Bree Runway and Khalid team up on their sweet single "Be The One." Their voices blend perfectly together as they detail their quests for love as they sing, "I can see the tears in your eyes when you look in mine / Told you for the thousandth time, you should be the one for me / Should I stay here tonight? Baby, you decide / Hopin' you'd be the one, you, you could be the one."
