30 tracks with the potential to be the song of the summer 2023

It's that time of year again. Days are getting longer, temperatures are getting warmer, and people are ready to live their best lives outside because summertime is finally here! As people get ready for day parties, vacations, and nights on the town, the most anticipated season of the year needs to have an official theme song. 

While the song of the summer isn't crowned until September, there are plenty of early contenders that are worth monitoring. With the sizzling season underway, here are 30 tracks with the potential to heat up the summer.

As a producer and DJ, Kaytranada is no stranger to teaming up with other artists to make magic. He surprised fans when he announced his collaboration alongside rapper Aminé. They combined their names to form the duo Kaytraminé and joined forces with Pharrell on their first single, "4EVA." Naturally, the song comes with the signature dance groove from Kaytranada, Aminé glides effortlessly with his bars, and Pharrell shines bright as he sings the hook.

Miley Cyrus was already set to take over the warm season with the name of her eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation. Her lead single, "Flowers" may have been released in early January, but it's still managed to stay on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for months. With an interpolation of Gloria Gaynor's hit song "I Will Survive," the disco and pop influences give "Flowers" a smooth groove that's perfect for that summer feeling.

British R&B group FLO has been named as an artist to watch on plenty of publication lists since last year. They teamed up with rap legend Missy Elliott on their latest single, "Fly Girl," a track that female independence during a ladies' night out. In addition to Elliott's bars, the song also interpolates the rapper's 2002 hit track "Work It." As the girls say on the track, "I got plans tonight, you ain't part of them / 'Cause my girls and I, yeah, we all a ten / Know it's ladies night, shout to all of them / Put your one's up in the sky if you a fly."

Teaming up with Nicki Minaj, the track uses a joyful sample of Alice Deejay's 1999 single "Better Off Alone," a song that always gets people on the dance floor. As Petras sings about desiring some love and affection from a partner, the track is sure to leave listeners feeling fun and flirty.

It's evident in the first verse as he says, "Ya boy's strivin' to be the most dominant ever / The hardest white boy since the one who rapped about vomit and sweaters." That line caused quite a stir on social media as people debated his skills compared to Eminem.
