15 albums to look forward to in 2023

With 2022 winding down and the holiday season in full effect, it's already time to start thinking about what 2023 will bring. And even if you're a little nervous about what the next year has in store, at least you'll have a lot of great music to listen to. It's early yet, but 2023 is already packed with a slew of exciting new album releases from some of music's biggest artists.

From Peter Gabriel to Kelly Clarkson and Avenged Sevenfold to Lewis Capaldi, these are the 15 albums we're already looking forward to in 2023.

Alt-country star Margo Price will ring in 2023 with her much-anticipated fourth full-length album, Strays. It's Price's first since 2020's acclaimed That's How Rumors Get Started and is set for release on January 13.

On the heels of the massive success of "Unholy," their collaboration with Kim Petras that went viral on TikTok, Sam Smith is set to release Gloria on January 27 via Capitol Records.

'Queen of Me' by Shania Twain

The sixth full-length album from pop-country queen Shania Twain, Queen Of Me is also the name of Twain's upcoming world tour. The album, set for release on February 3, is about empowerment. "Life is short and I want to be uplifted, colorful, unapologetic, and empowered. I want to carry a clear message, particularly as a woman, to always remember my power and I hope the songs are a reminder to you, of that same power inside you," Twain said in an Instagram post announcing Queen of Me.

'This Is Why' by Paramore

'This Is Why' by Paramore

Pop-punk icons Paramore are planning a big 2023 with the release of their first album in nearly six years, titled This Is Why. The album's lead single and title track was released in September and is currently a top-10 hit on the US Rock Airplay chart, among others.

Blink-182

Beloved pop-punk trio Blink-182 is set to return in 2023 with a world tour and an untitled new album. It's the first Blink-182 album since 2019 and the first with founding guitarist Tom DeLonge since he quit the band in 2015. No release date has been set for the album, but it's expected to arrive in the summer of 2023.

'Atum: Act Two' by The Smashing Pumpkins

'Atum: Act Two' by The Smashing Pumpkins

The second of a three-part rock opera from the Smashing Pumpkins, Atum: Act 2 is set for release on January 31, 2023. The third part will follow later in the year, in April.

UK pop star Ellie Goulding will release her fifth full-length album, Higher Than Heaven, on February 3, 2023. It's the follow-up to 2020's Brightest Blue and includes the recently released — and critically acclaimed — single "Let It Die."

Kelly Clarkson's "divorce-inspired" album

After parting ways with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, daytime TV host and American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson is plotting a divorce album for 2023. No timeline for the album's release has been announced, but fans can expect to hear new music from Clarkson by the end of 2023.

Jennifer Lopez, a.k.a. Mrs. Affleck, has big plans for 2023. She'll release her ninth full-length album, her first since 2014's A.K.A., an as-yet-untitled record that she has described as her "most honest work" to date.

Ed Sheeran

In early November, UK pop sensation Ed Sheeran announced plans to release a new album in 2023. It will come on the heels of 2021's =. In November, Sheeran teased a new music video for "my brand new album, which will be out next year" in a since-deleted Instagram post.

Selena Gomez

In October, pop queen Selena Gomez announced that she was back in the studio recording a new album, set for release in 2023. Details on the album are scant for now, but Gomez has said that the record will arrive next year. She dropped the single "My Mind & Me" in November, the title track for her Apple TV+ documentary. Her last LP was 2020's Rare, and she earned a Grammy nomination for her 2021 Spanish-language EP "Revelacion."

Thanks largely to TikTok, Lewis Capaldi's star has risen dramatically over the past year. On May 19, 2023, he'll release his much-anticipated album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, including the hit "Forget Me," released in September.

Peter Gabriel is planning a 2023 comeback with the release of i/o, his first full-length album of original songs since 2002. Gabriel's also planning a big world tour next year that will kick off in May 2023 in Krakow, Poland.

Metal fans, rejoice: beloved California-born band Avenged Sevenfold is back in the studio and preparing a new album for 2023. It's unclear when exactly the band's eighth full-length album will drop — late 2022 is a possibility — but expect it to arrive by the end of 2023.

Kylie Minogue

Wildly prolific Australian pop star Kylie Minogue is set to release her 16th full-length album in 2023. It's Minogue's first since 2018's Golden and is expected to arrive sometime in the middle of the year.
