West Virginia QB Garrett Green a 'Game Time Decision'
USA TODAY Sports

Thursday evening, West Virginia University football head coach Neal Brown gave an update on Garrett Greene's injury status and noted the junior quarterback has practiced this week and will be a game time decision. However, redshirt freshman quarterback Nicco Marchiol has taken most of the reps during practice this week.

Starting quarterback Garrett Greene left the Backyard Brawl last week after rushing off the right side on the second drive of the game with an ankle injury. Marchiol stepped in and remained poised and managed the Mountaineers rushing attack in the 17-6 win over Pitt. Marchiol also went 6-9 through the air for 60 yards, completing all six passes consecutively and connecting on two key third downs.

Marchiol had a similar appearance at Oklahoma State in last year's season finale, filling in for an injured Greene, guiding the Mountaineers to a 24-19 win.

Greene is 26-47 for 402 yards and four touchdowns this season while Marchiol has thrown for 196 yards and touchdowns on 17-36 passing for his career.

The West Virginia Mountaineers (2-1) and the Texas Tech Red Raiders (1-2) kickoff at 3:30 p.m. EST at Mountaineer Field with the action streaming on ESPN+.
