The Ohio State football team has been without a running backs coach for a while. Tony Alford decided to leave the program to head to Michigan. Since then, the Buckeyes have had Ryan Day running the meetings with that group. They have been conducting interviews for a while to make sure that they get the right man for the job.

Day seemed confident that he would have the position filled by the end of the week. We now know why he was so confident. The Buckeyes have decided on who they are going to hire. This comes soon after the Buckeyes were projected to land a four-star running back recruit with no hire announced.

The Ohio State football team hires Carlos Locklyn as RB Coach

Carlos Locklyn has decided to leave Oregon and join the Buckeyes. He has been the running backs coach there since 2022. He was also the running backs coach at Western Kentucky in 2021. Locklyn also had stops at Memphis and Florida State before coaching running backs with the Hilltoppers. He has now come to Columbus.

With this hire, the Ohio State football team has a full coaching staff once again. This was the last hire that they needed to make in order to fix that. Locklyn comes into a room that is stacked. Both TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins have rushed for over 1,000 yards before in their careers. He won’t have to do much to make sure that they are ready.

Locklyn will need to prove that he can recruit and develop players at an elite level. We’ll find out more about that in 2025 and beyond once the Buckeyes don’t have as good of options in the backfield. Until then, Ohio State football fans should be happy that the coaching staff is full once again.

Now we can look forward to the Spring Game.
