Ohio State announces significant staff changes after Bill O’Brien hire

The Ohio State Buckeyes are significantly reshuffling their coaching staff after hiring Bill O’Brien as their new offensive coordinator.

Ohio State on Friday confirmed the hiring of O’Brien as their new offensive coordinator. Previous offensive coordinator Brian Hartline, one of the most highly-regarded assistant coaches in the country, will remain on staff as co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.

In addition, former quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis, who happens to be Urban Meyer’s son-in-law, will be reassigned to a yet-to-be-determined role on the staff. It had previously appeared as if Dennis would lose his job as a result of O’Brien’s hiring, but the school appears determined to find a place for him.

Keeping Hartline in the fold along with O’Brien had to be a big deal for coach Ryan Day. Hartline had been promoted to offensive coordinator prior to the 2023 season and is regarded as an excellent coach and recruiter.

The move to bring in O’Brien is still a significant one after a few disappointing seasons at Ohio State. He joins after a year as offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots.
