Nick Saban headed to 'College Gameday' as college football analyst

Nick Saban could be coming to your city in 2024.

The retired, seven-time national championship-winning coach will be part of the 2024 college football season, it was announced on Wednesday.

ESPN revealed Saban would join the network as a college football analyst on "College GameDay" this fall. Per a press release, Saban is being added to the 2023 cast: host Rece Davis and analysts Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee.

His first major role with the network will be during the 2024 NFL Draft. ESPN also announced he'll contribute to its coverage of SEC media days from July 15-18.

"Nick Saban is a singular, iconic presence in college football," said ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro. "He is an extremely communicator, who will immediately add even more credibility, authority and entertainment value to ESPN," Pittaro continued.

Added Saban: "I'll do my best to offer additional insights and perspectives to contribute to 'College GameDay,' the ultimate Saturday tradition for college football fans."

"GameDay" is the ratings king for college football pregame shows, but its main competitor, Fox's "Big Noon Kickoff," has gained traction. Ahead of this year's Michigan-Ohio State game, "Big Noon Kickoff" averaged more viewers for the first time.

As the networks battle for viewers, ESPN's ability to land Saban, who many view as the greatest coach in college football history, is a huge deal. The worldwide leader in sports just made the year's best transfer portal signing.
