Jameis Winston reacts to devastating injury suffered by FSU QB Jordan Travis

Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis had his tremendous 2023 season unfairly cut short by a devastating leg injury on Saturday, prompting a heartfelt reaction from a former Seminoles standout.

On a night when Jameis Winston was on hand to have his No. 5 retired by FSU, the Heisman Trophy winner turned the focus to Travis while donning the QB's jersey.

"I just want to continue to encourage him to be resilient and continue to persevere. I think he's the epitome of that with his journey, his college football career," Winston said. "He was having one of the best years in college football and I'm grateful to be rocking his jersey."

Winston's voice cracked at times as he seemingly tried to find the right words to convey his heartbreak over Travis' injury. However, he said he wanted to continue to "lift him up."

"Keep your head firm, stand firm, be strong and courageous - the lord has a plan for you that no man can even imagine, so just stay resilient," Winston said. "I just want to pray for his family that they're well. He's going to be fine. I know he will."

Travis suffered a horrific leg injury early in the first quarter against North Alabama. After scampering for a long first-down run, Travis was dragged to the turf by a hip-drop tackle, which pinned his left leg under the defender's body weight.

The visual of Travis's injury isn't for the faint of heart, but it will undoubtedly end his year. Ahead of Saturday, Travis was having an outstanding senior season for FSU.

Through 10 games, Travis had thrown for 2,735 yards (8.5 YPC) with 20 touchdowns and two interceptions for a passer rating of 155. Meanwhile, he solidified himself among the top candidates for the Heisman Trophy alongside Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr., LSU QB Jayden Daniels and Washington QB Michael Penix Jr.
