Jameis Winston and Kenny Shaw See Positive Change for FSU Under Mike Norvell
USA TODAY Sports

There were some familiar faces on the football fields of Jones High School in Orlando, FL, this past Saturday. Former Florida State wide receiver Kenny Shaw hosted his annual Shaw is R.A.W. Youth Camp to promote integrity and perseverance throughout trying times for young adult athletes from surrounding areas and nationwide.

Not too long ago, former FSU quarterback Jameis Winston and Shaw found themselves hoisting a National Championship Trophy in 2013, which undoubtedly took the grit and determination that Shaw's camp aims to teach. Flash forward to 2017, and the Seminoles headed into a dark era, playing through a fundamental overhaul of the coaching staff and an 18-20 record until 2020. Something that current head coach Mike Norvell aimed to change.

It seems now, though, in the eyes of former players, that Florida State is heading in the right direction under Norvell and his 'Noles who just came off their first 10-win season since 2016. The upcoming year has placed high expectations for the Seminoles, who will return one of the most explosive offenses in the country.

"I just appreciate the guys," Shaw said at his camp when talking about the team. "They look like they're playing for each other, and that's what builds champions."

Winston echoed his sentiments.

"Yeah absolutely. I think what coach Norvell gives the kids and the student-athlete at Florida State is a vision of being the best human being that they can be, and whether that's through gratitude, whether that's through hard work and effort at practice, whatever it is he is instilling to those kids, it worked," Winston remarked.

Florida State will return 90 percent of it's production from 2022 and brought in the 5th ranked transfer class according to 247Sports. With the upcoming classes littered with blue chips and top prospects, it appears Norvell and Co. have something brewing in Tallahassee.

"He's doing an amazing job down there at Florida State and it's kind of like we getting our mojo back," Winston said. "We got a good quarterback in Jordan Travis so we're all excited to see how well our team does this year."
