Deion Sanders makes plea for more money from donors after ending season 4-8
Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders Christopher Creveling-USA TODAY Sports

Deion Sanders first season at Colorado started out promising but ultimately ended in disappointment. The Buffaloes started out 3-0 but then lost seven of the next eight to end the season 4-8. After their last game, Sanders made a plea to the donors.

Deion Sanders Asks Donors For More Money

Deion Sanders acknowledged that he thought the first year would be difficult but also called on the donors to help the program.

“We definitely need ‘giving.’ You know what I mean," Sanders said. "It’s unfortunate to say this, but some kids cost… We can sit here and talk about great coaching and great this and great that all we want. But it’s going to be a credit card swipe with all these guys going to these playoffs. I understand that.”

Sanders is good at saying the quiet part out loud. Whether we like to admit it or not, in the NIL landscape, programs need money. It puts a lot of pressure on donors to open up their pockets. If Colorado is going to continue to improve, the program needs more money.

Sanders See A Bright Future

Deion Sanders was proud of this season despite how it ended. He knew it was going to be a struggle and for the most part, it was.

“I could see around the corner tremendously. I don’t just see what’s right ahead," Sanders said. "So at the beginning of the season, I kind of saw around the corner. I think I kind of forewarned you guys after the Oregon game, ‘You better get us now.’ Because I know what we have in-house. I know what we don’t have. I know we’re lacking tremendously. And that was a prelude to some things that kind of fell apart. They really dominated our weaknesses.”

Colorado has their work cut out for them next season. They have to build on the progress they made this season. Hopefully, they can take another step forward next season and make a bowl game.
