Chiefs hosted underrated Washington WR Jalen McMillan on a pre-draft visit
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs hosted one of the most underrated receiver prospects in the 2024 NFL draft on a top-30 visit.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Chiefs are among the teams to have hosted Washington Huskies WR Jalen McMillan on a pre-draft visit. Rome Odunze and Ja'Lynn Polk might be well-known in this draft cycle, but McMillan rounded out QB Michael Penix Jr.'s receiver room and was just as trusted as his other teammates.

McMillan could prove a perfect fit for the Chiefs in the 2024 NFL draft

McMillan missed some time in 2023 with a knee injury, which is probably one of the reasons the Chiefs brought him in for a top-30 visit. It's also one of the reasons he remains one of the most underrated receivers in this draft class. He's just over a year removed from a sophomore campaign where he caught 79 passes for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns. In only 11 games in 2023, he has 45 catches for 559 yards and five touchdowns. He also had three rushes for 30 yards and a touchdown.

The 6-foot-1 and 180-pound wideout is a threat to take the football the distance any chance he touches the football. He gets open against tight man coverage with savvy route-running and pure speed. He can find the space in zone coverage to catch a short pass and take it to the house. He plays tough through contact, but he has the quickness, footwork, and elusivity to avoid it altogether in some situations.

McMillan boasts inside/outside versatility with over 1,000 passing snaps played over the past three seasons per PFF. Exactly 735 of those snaps have come in the slot, while 316 of them have come aligned on the perimeter. Some of that likely is because of the fact he was competing with teammates like Odunze and Polk for snaps outside.
