Alabama AD Greg Byrne addresses rumors of move to Texas A&M
Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK

After already dealing with the departure of Nick Saban from the football program, some Alabama fans were worried that they’d be losing their athletic director too.

Rumors had circled the past few days of Texas A&M possibly being interested in Greg Byrne as the university’s new athletics director after Ross Bjork left for Ohio State. But on Wednesday those rumors were put to rest when Yea Alabama’s Director of Content Aaron Suttles reported that Byrne informed him that he doesn’t want to be anywhere but Alabama.

“Regina and I have felt genuinely supported by President Bell, our Trustees, coaches, staff and fan base since the day we arrived 7 years ago,” Byrne said to Suttles. “We are excited about our future.”

Byrne does have ties to the Aggies as his father, Bill Byrne, worked in the Texas A&M athletics department from 2003-12.

But Byrne isn’t interested in adding any more turnover to Alabama athletics after hiring new head football coach Kalen DeBoer to replace Saban.
