Iowa Hawkeyes Star Gets Surprising Offer From Ice Cube as She Finishes 2024 Season

BIG3 CEO Ice Cube didn’t take long to confirm the rumors that his professional basketball brand attempted to lure Caitlin Clark away from the WNBA.

According to The Spun’s Chris Rosvoglou, the details about Clark’s potential Bi3 deal is going to be one of the most lucrative offers for female basketball playersr:

“We intended the offer to remain private while Caitlin Clark plays for the championship. But I won’t deny what’s now already out there: BIG3 made a historic offer to Caitlin Clark,” Ice Cube wrote on X. “Why wouldn’t we? Caitlin is a generational athlete who can achieve tremendous success in the BIG3.”

Clark would receive $5 million to play in eight regular-season games and potentially two playoff games. On the surface, that sounds like a great deal.

Basketball fans, however, don’t love the idea of Ice Cube’s three-on-three league stealing the NCAA’s thunder when women’s basketball is on the rise.

It’s true that such a contract would provide a lot of financial benefits to Clark, so one can look at the contract situation with the BIG3 as recognition for her game.

However, if Clark does want to advance the women’s game, it may be better for her to stick to the WNBA and grow it as one of its biggest stars. With the way she’s been playing in March Madness so far, there’s little doubt that eyes will be following her move to the pros.

Getting as many people watching the WNBA as possible will only benefit the women’s game. Clark, who’s averaging 31.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.8 assists on 47%/38%/86% shooting splits, will be a great ambassador for the game.
