Patrick Ewing responds to speculation about Georgetown future
Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

The Georgetown Hoyas fell to 6-22 on Sunday with a loss to UConn, increasing speculation about Patrick Ewing’s future as head coach.

Ewing’s consistent struggles prompted questions about his future at the school, and the legendary center admitted his return was far from certain. He said Sunday he was eager to stay in the job, but knew his return is no certainty.

Ewing, now in his fifth season as Georgetown coach, is now 68-81 in his tenure. He has only made the NCAA Tournament once, and has missed the postseason entirely in three of his five seasons. At a school of Georgetown’s stature, that simply is not good enough.

Only one year ago, Ewing led the Hoyas on a Cinderella run through the Big East tournament to make the March Madness field. It looks particularly bad for him that he was unable to build on that.
