LSU fires basketball coach Will Wade days after receiving NCAA notice of violations

LSU is moving on from men's basketball coach Will Wade, according to multiple reports, days after the NCAA sent the university a notice of allegations that recruiting violations occurred within the program.

Wade, 39, became the head coach at LSU in 2017 after stints with Chattanooga and VCU. In five seasons with the Tigers, the team went 105-51 with a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2018. Despite losing to Arkansas in the SEC Tournament, LSU is still projected to be part of the NCAA Tournament with Kevin Nickelberry reportedly taking over as interim coach.

In 2019, Yahoo Sports reported that an FBI wiretap caught Wade in 2017 talking about the "strong-as- offer" he previously made to a recruit. In 2020, HBO aired the audio recording during a documentary.

Scandals continued to pile up around Wade when ESPN published NCAA documents in 2020 that alleged at least 11 recruits received or were offered impermissible benefits from LSU.

In the latest notice from the NCAA, LSU was notified of seven Level I violations (the most severe) by the men's basketball program under Wade.
