Louisville Cardinals: Controversial Head Coach Makes Shocking Declaration to Lead Louisville in 2024

According to Rick Bozich, Bob Higgins made his intentions clear about the open position.

He claims that he could turn around a team that has struggled for years and turn them into a powerhouse once again.

Bob Huggins does have the pedigree to make such claims. His coaching career started in 1985, and he has climbed his way into becoming one of the most respected coaches in the college basketball game. He reached the Final Four in his third year with the Cincinnati Bearcats and the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Higgins’ controversial actions will hurt his chances

While it’s true that Higgins has a pedigree to boast about, his most recent actions don’t make him the most attractive hire in the transfer portal.

Yardbarker’s Victor Barbosa wrote about his most recent transgressions that caused his ouster from the West Virginia program:

Last May, Huggins used an anti-gay slur twice during a radio interview on 700WLW’s “Bill Cunningham Show.”

Then in June, the longtime West Virginia leader picked up his second DUI arrest in 10 years and reportedly resigned.

Huggins sent a letter to the university in July, claiming that he never resigned and threatened to sue if he wasn’t reinstated.

According to a report from Rick Bozich of WDRB.com, Huggins said during his Wednesday appearance on the Jerry Eaves radio show that that he completed a rehab program and hasn’t had any alcohol in over 300 days.

The Cardinals could take a risk on Higgins if they feel like there aren’t any solid coaches worth taking a swing on. However, they should know better than to let in a person who hasn’t performed to his expected standards on and off the hardwood.
