Today, boxing world title fights take place around the globe and are more accessible to watch than ever before. Sometimes, however, certain championship bouts do not receive as much attention and go underreported. Big Fight Weekend has a commitment to writing about boxing news, previews, and recaps. As such, the site now has a recurring segment on world title bouts from around the world from the past week. It will recap fights that have not already been covered by the site, with a specific focus on clashes ranging from atomweight to heavyweight that had the WBA, WBC, IBF, and/or WBO titles on the line.

Today’s edition of “Other Title Fights From Around The World” consists of just one recap. The IBF super flyweight championship was contested on a Nov. 11 MarvNation show that also saw an appearance from Fernando Vargas Jr., son of former world champion Fernando Vargas. José Luis Castillo Jr., son of José Luis Castillo, was also on the undercard.

Irma Garcia-Stephanie Silva recap

Irma Garcia (23-5-1, 4 KOs, 4 NCs)* became the IBF super flyweight champion with a unanimous decision victory over Stephanie Silva (8-1, 0 KOs). All judges scored the clash 99-90. The fight aired lived on DAZN around the world and was part of a MarvNation Promotions show in Long Beach, CA. It was Garcia’s second ever world title having previously held the WBA bantamweight championship ten years prior.

Silva was aggressive from the very beginning, something that prevented Garcia from moving too much around the ring. Despite this, Garcia was able to do the better work in the majority of the rounds. In round five, Silva was caught by a left cross that left her staggered. She attempted to hold on Garcia but was unable to do so, sending her onto the ropes. When this happened, referee Gerard White stepped in and ruled a knockdown.

In the later rounds, Garcia would often catch Silva coming in. However, Silva remained standing and picked up her tempo. Despite this, Garcia was able to remain in control until the final bell. She is now the first person to win the IBF super flyweight title on US soil.

On the undercard, Vargas picked up his thirteenth win with a second round stoppage of Wilfrido Buelvas. Castillo lost a unanimous decision to Michael Bracamontes on scores of 80-72 (x2) and 78-74.

*Four of Garcia’s bouts occured on a reality TV show in Mexico). Although BoxRec has a record of these fights, they are all listed as no contests.
