EXCLUSIVE: Sergio Mora Gives His Take on Teofimo Lopez vs Jamaine Ortiz
Admedia, Inc

Two-division world champion Teofimo Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs) is all set to put his WBO light welterweight title on the line in a sensational showdown against Jamaine Ortiz (17-1-1, 8 KOs) at the Michelob Ultra Arena, Las Vegas, during the Super Bowl weekend. While the boxing fraternity and fans are undoubtedly excited, former WBC junior middleweight champion turned DAZN commentator Sergio Mora (29-5-2, 9 KOs) shared his thoughts on the possible outcome of the fight.

He was recently in an interview with FightsATW. In conversation, he was asked about his thoughts on the upcoming Lopez vs Ortiz bout.

Mora responded by mentioning that Lopez carries considerable mass for a 140-pounder. “And he’s very athletic. So, he brings athleticism with that mass, speed, and power. When he’s in shape and his mind’s right, Teofimo’s hard to beat, and we’ve seen him on the top level,” he said. “So, I’m gonna always favor him when he’s ready.”

He further added that Lopez has been opening up his camp a lot more. This has, in turn, resulted in having many more eyes on him. Moreover, he stated that Lopez seems a lot more confident in his skills.

“Against Jamaine Ortiz, you know they’ve got similar styles. Ortiz is also athletic. But he does not have the size or the power that Teofimo Lopez has. That’s going to be the difference there,” Mora said.

‘It’s going to be difficult’

However, Mora revealed that Ortiz is anything but a cakewalk for Lopez. He stated that the similar fighting styles might be challenging for both fighters.

“It’s going to be difficult for someone like Teofimo Lopez to track down someone that fights somewhat similar to him. In the second part of the fight, that’s when Teo’s size comes into play. And I think that’s going to be the difference,” he continued. “But I don’t think he stops Ortiz. I think Ortiz is that damn good.”

Mora believes that the fight will be an “interesting test” for Lopez’s skills and added that he wishes to see him in similar fights in the future.
