On this day in 2014, the Edmonton Oilers acquired forward Matt Hendricks from the Nashville Predators in exchange for goaltender Devan Dubnyk. The trade for the Oilers meant a bit of change for the organization, at least in the eyes of Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish.
Goaltender Devan Dubnyk officially announced his retirement on Saturday after playing with six NHL teams over 12 seasons. Dubnyk, 36, was named a Vezina Trophy finalist during a 2014-15 season in which he split time with the Arizona Coyotes and Minnesota Wild.
Dubnyk confirmed that he will join the NHL Network where he made his regular season debut with them on Thursday night.
After last playing in the NHL in 2021, Devan Dubnyk has retired and moved into the world of hockey broadcasting. Dubnyk, 36, last played in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche in 2021 after a rocky run with the San Jose Sharks.
If the recent showing between the Minnesota Wild and the Edmonton Oilers is any indication, the Oilers let a good goalie go. It’s always easier in hindsight, but it’s hard to let a goalie go who recently set the franchise win record.
The 35-year-old netminder played 22 games at the NHL level last season, but hadn’t found a contract so far in 2021-22.
Dubnyk could find a spot where he can act as a No. 3 and, if need be or if he shows he is capable, can take over a backup role.
Another OHL selection, who missed last season due to the shutdown. The San Jose Sharks nabbed an extra fifth round pick during April’s trade deadline by sending goaltender Devan Dubnyk to the Colorado Avalanche, buying them 156 overall.
Players in the protocol are: Colorado's Devan Dubnyk and Washington's Evgeny Kuznetsov.
The Colorado Avalanche acquired goaltender Devan Dubnyk from the San Jose Sharks for defenseman Greg Pateryn and a 2021 fifth-round pick.
As per a report by Kevin Weekes, it appears the Colorado Avalanche have keyed in on and landed their goaltender of need. They’ve acquired Devan Dubnyk from the San Jose Sharks ahead of Monday’s NHL Trade Deadline.
Dubnyk is signed through the 2020-21 campaign.
The Florida Panthers have also inquired on Donato, according to reports.

Put your spring wardrobe on hold and throw on that hockey sweater, because the Stanley Cup Playoffs are finally here. It took up until the very end of the weekend to know exactly who was in and what the match-ups would be.
